About The Male Quotient
Black men's health, measured differently
The Male Quotient started with a hard truth. The most important men in my life, my father, my grandfather, and my uncle, were strong in every way men are taught to be strong. And one by one, they were gone before their time. Before they had the opportunity to grow old.
“Black men deserve to live long, healthy lives and die of natural causes.” - Dr. Leo Moore
That is not just my family. It is a pattern. Black men live shorter lives than any other group of men in this country, and most of what takes us early is preventable. I went looking for a place where Black men could find real health information tailored for us, from someone who looks like us.
I could not find it. So I created it.
This show exists to change that math, and to redefine strength as something bigger than toughness: the courage to care for the whole man: mind, body, and soul.
Your host, Dr. Leo
I am a physician, an author, and a health advocate, and now the host of The Male Quotient. I trained in medicine at Morehouse School of Medicine, completed my Internal Medicine training at Yale, and I am board-certified in Lifestyle Medicine, the field that focuses on the daily habits that help us thrive throughout life and into older age.
I have spent my career on the kind of care most men skip: the checkups, the screenings, the honest conversations. I was named Men's Health Magazine's 2024 "Ultimate Guy," and I wrote the Men's Preventive Health Guide. But more than any of that,
“I am a son, a brother, an uncle, and a friend. I am one of the men I am talking to.
Whatever I challenge you to do on this show, I do it too.”
